Once you have your website designed you need to care about its revenue, unless your website is just brochure type of website.

How to start populating your website?
The best traffic comes from organic search placement. So that you need to optimize your website for search engines. Whether you do SEO(search engine optimization)work yourself or hire someone, you need to define main key phrases for your website, use those phrases on your webpages titles, and content. Also see if those key phrases are competitive or not. If they too much competitive it will be hard to gain top positions on search engines, so better to make life easier and find more appropriate key phrases.

Let's say if my desired targeted key phrases is "web design", what I do? I have look in google for that key phrase result and I found that there are 2,330,000,000 search results for this key phrase, this mean it is pointless to target all my efforts on this key phrases, so let's add one more word to this target, we can bind this key phrases with location name, let's try "web design in Texas" as you see there are less results 148.000.000, and we have a chance to get good position with this key phrases, so first thing we do, we place "web design in Texas" in our home page title, in page content, we use the same key phrase as content title as well, and make it h1 tag.

Your content on home page should be rich, and include various combination with words Texas, Web design, web designer, web site, etc. Content must be unique, not copy from other websites, otherwise search engines must drop your site in sandbox.

So now we have done with our home page optimization, what next? Next is your internal pages, if you provide different services, like website maintenance, website redesign ... and so on, you have create links to them from your home page, and link names should match with your services names, and pages urls have to include their names as well. You put the same efforts on those secondary pages, playing with their content, titles etc.

Next is to set up links pages, your links page should be sorted by categories, you can download link exchange software  and install on your website I provide it for free. Once you installed it, start building your link exchange with other websites, as you know as many links to your website so better for your website position. You should ask others link to your website with this title "Web design in Texas" as it is your primary target keyphrase, however you can use different anchors as well.

Don't expect to be places on first page of google in 1 month, note that search engines optimization can take up to 7-8 months, and you will see results afterwards. It's hard to survive in "search engine war", only hard efforts would make your dreams comes true. Nothing is easy. But this worth it, because after few months you will have targeted visitors to your website, and do business with your website.
