Content Development & Copywriting

"Beauty without Spirit"- this is how I would describe an aesthetically appealing website with average, unconvincing content. No doubt, an attractive website will surely have visitors pouring in for an aesthetic delight, but whether it actually gets you any business- that’s a different story altogether. An appealing website will accomplish the task of attracting visitors to your website and if you have some persuasive, well-written content up there, then Voila!  You have a winner on hand. An effective webmaster, and I profess to be one, knows the importance of the content on your website and will surely pay equal attention to it as to the aesthetics of the website. As a webmaster, I deal with a variety of businesses, all with different requirements. Coding, graphics, design, information and text - Yes, I can help you with all. Practically, I design a website right from a scratch and the results, without being modest, sometimes even amaze me.

The more I stress on the importance of the content on your website, the less it is. Most websites start business on a very promising note only to have their business dwindling within a few weeks. The reason is weak, unimpressive content that is not able to arrest the attention of the visitors. One must understand that attractive packaging alone is never able to sell a product in the market. One needs to be persuasive enough to convince the buyer. On your website, it is the content of your website that does the talking for you. The words are a representation of yourself and the ideals & objectives of your business. In short, these words can make or break your website. As a Webmaster, I have dealt with a number of clients who had to be convinced about the importance of persuasive content on their websites. I hope, after reading this, a number of you who are in the process of getting your websites designed will realize how crucial the job of your copywriter is, along with your website designer. Aren’t you glad you found me, a one stop shop for all your needs!
I am not undermining the importance of an impressive website design. After all, that too is a part of my job. The first visual impression that a visitor will receive will be the one that influences him into reading the content of your homepage. What I am stressing on is the fact that it is the content of your home page that will retain that interest of the visitor. Consider this; a beautiful woman who lacks emotions cannot retain the interest of a man. Pardon the analogy! But this is how I would describe a beautiful website with unconvincing copy.

According to me, a good copy should be able to achieve the following objectives:

  1. It should be written keeping in mind the visitors that you expect will visit your website.
  2. It should be able to give valid reasons why your product is the best choice available in the market
  3. Trust is the key to success. It should tell the visitors why they should trust you and your services.
  4. The words should appear as if you are directly conversing to the customers and not through some medium.
  5. A right dose of emotions often works better than a long line of reasoning. The use of words that connect you emotionally with your customers often go a long way in developing long term relationships.
  6. A good copywriter should avoid an over flowery language. More often than not, high flown language has few buyers. So, the copywriter should keep it simple and straight.
  7. The copywriter should remember that most internet users are highly impatient; they only have a few seconds to spare for your website. So, pack the punch in a few words.
  8. Headers, phrases, expressions that stand out often catch the attention more than well written long paragraphs of literature.
  9. Your homepage is often the most important. So, make sure the content on your homepage is arresting, interesting and motivating enough for the visitor to move beyond the homepage.
  10. The content on all the pages should be complete in itself. Most people hate to use several links to read one complete article.

A sound copywriter is so well versed in the above rules that he can easily churn out copy after copy of winning content that makes a success out of numerous websites- no matter what the subject of the website is. Also, there are no fixed rules for copywriting. Different businesses have different demands and a good copywriter can easily mould his writing style to suit these demands. Formal or informal, concise or descriptive, emotional or to-the- point-all these styles can be cultivated by a flexible copywriter who is able to catch the pulse of your website.
To conclude this long but hopefully informative article for my prospective clients, I would just add a few parameters about designing a website. A successful website is a balanced blend of technology and literature. None of these two factors can be undermined if you wish to achieve the targets you set out to achieve. A free, frank and extensive discussion with your webmaster and copywriter is, therefore, essential to help them design your dream website. It is indeed amazing that technology has to rely so heavily on the creativity of the human brain for its success.

As a webmaster, I am blessed o be able to offer you both- an expertise in the technological know-how and a creative mind. I can connect to the needs of a website both with my mind and my heart-the mind I use for the dry but practical technology and the heart I keep for churning out the words on your website. With both my faculties well employed with a single minded devotion to help you achieve your goals, I can assure you that, with my services, you are sure to have a winner on your hand very soon.
